Marital Roles?

Traditional "Roles" of wives: To submit to her husband, to be domestic ,and to be the nurturer.(Ephesians 22 and Proverbs 31)

Traditional "Roles" of the husband: To love the wife like Christ loves the church, to be the physical leader, to run the finances, to be a spiritual leader for the family and to be the breadwinner.(Ephesians 5:25 and 1 timothy 5:8)

Recently God has taught me to kick this word "roles" and substitute it with the word "desires." Roles mean: a function or activity expected by a person or group. Desires mean: to want something strongly. I believe that our desires come from God.I think that there is so much truth/love in Ephesians 5:22-33, Proverbs 31 and 1 Timothy 5:8. God gave me these verses to show me the desire of my heart not what He expects me to be.

Marriage isn't about being in a box called "roles" it is about freely serving each other unconditionally, weather it is your "role" or not! The desire to just serve and do whatever God calls me to do personally in my marriage. Changing my mindset from "expectation" to "desire" has changed the way I am a wife and the way I see marriage.
